Francis Ormond MLC
This memorial with a large granite Celtic cross is the grave of the Honourable Francis Ormond MLC. He was a successful grazier, politician, pioneer educator and philanthropist, and the man behind Ormond College in Melbourne.
He was originally interred in the Ormond family vault, after his body had been returned from France where he had died in 1889. It was his second wife and two adopted children who had moved him to this much more monumental site on higher ground. She is buried here with him.
Captain Francis Ormond, this one’s father and the man who started the family fortune, is interred down the hill in the family vault.
