Opening of Fourth Mausoleum

Geelong Cemeteries Trust has opened its fourth community mausoleum.

The official opening was held in the grounds of Geelong Eastern Cemetery on Monday 20 May 2024, with a number of Councillors and Representatives of Parliament in attendance to support the importance of this new space.

This was followed by a community opening on Wednesday 19 June 2024, welcoming families who have purchased crypts. St Mary’s Parish Priest Father Jim Clarke performed a blessing of the new mausoleum.

The new mausoleum building meets the growing needs of the community and offers a traditional, cultural and significant resting place.

Completed over 11 months, the new space provides 105 crypts and is set amongst beautifully landscaped gardens and walkways, offering visitors a quiet environment for reflection.

The building is designed by award-winning architecture and interior design practice, Harmer Architecture, and draws on the existing three mausolea, characterised by light-filled galleries and elegant finishes using the highest quality materials. All trades and consultants were Victorian based with many from the Geelong region. Geelong Cemeteries Trust staff also played a pivotal role in the construction and landscaping.

Each mausoleum stands as a unique building, distinguished by details such as unique stone, Italian bronze statues and chandeliers of coloured glass.

Crypts are available to be pre-purchased, with options to suit all families. For more information or to Plan Ahead, contact our friendly client services team on on 5249 3939 or [email protected].
