Our history
Drysdale (Bellarine) Cemetery is the final resting place of many original inhabitants of the Wadawurrung tribe.
In the 1850s, many men who made money from the gold rush sought to invest in land and many settlers came to the area. The Bellarine Peninsula became known as ‘The Granary of the Colony.’
The United Services Home was built at Drysdale in 1891 to cater for aged and infirmed soldiers and sailors of the Imperial and Colonial services. A section of the cemetery was set aside for their burials.
