Overview of Cemetery

Queenscliff Cemetery is a tranquil setting by the seaside.

Rich in history, it is the final resting place of a number of the region’s pioneers, as well as those interred in the previous Queenscliff cemetery.

This location features the iconic windswept Moonah (black paperbark) trees as its centrepiece, known as the Moonah Memorial Walk.

Our history

The original burial ground was near the Queenscliff foreshore, and was the last resting place for an unknown number of men and women who died on the perilous sea voyage to Australia in the 1840s.

In 1859, their bodies were re-interred in the current cemetery. By the 1880s, the Queenscliff cemetery was managed on denominational lines.
