Overview of Cemetery

Mount Duneed Cemetery is nestled amongst the rural setting of the local area.

Upon entry, visitors are greeted by a towering Monterey Cypress, with views of rolling hills in the distance. Bordered by native acacia, the grounds reflect the history of the area, distinctly organised by denomination. This location is the home of the Rupert Vance Moon Memorial Garden.

Our history

Land was set aside for the Irrewarra Cemetery in August 1858. In 1900 the Trustees were William Rutland, Wm Sherrin, Michael Burke and Michael Barr. These four men were also named as the trustees of the ‘Warncoort Cemetery Trust’. From this date the Victorian Government Gazette referred to the ‘Warncoort Cemetery Trust’ and the term, ‘Irrewarra Cemetery Trust’ disappeared from government records.
